Contracaecum
ALSO KNOWN AS: Contracecum, Bass nematode
Contracecum nematodes are found commonly in older warmwater fishes in Oregon, typically large- and smallmouth bass. They can cause several host immune responses leading to build-up of sticky adhesions in the host body cavity. Contracecum is not transmissable to humans or other mammals.
Distribution: Global in marine and freshwater environments
Detection Methods: Gross pathology / gross clinical signs
Hosts: Various fish species; piscivorous birds and mammals as definitive hosts
