ALSO KNOWN AS: Motile Aeromonas Septicemia (MAS)
Aeromonas veronii is a Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacterium found in freshwater environments. It is an opportunistic pathogen causing ulceration, abdominal distention, exophthalmia, hemorrhagic septicemia, and fin rot in fish. Outbreaks are often linked to poor water quality and temperature fluctuations.
Distribution: Worldwide in freshwater environments.
Hosts: Various freshwater fish species, including goldfish, tilapia, and catfish.
Detection Methods: Bacterial culture on Tryptic Soy Agar (TSA).
Target Tissue: Blood and internal organs.
