Coccidia
ALSO KNOWN AS: Intestinal Coccidiosis
Coccidia are microscopic, spore-forming protozoan parasites that infect the intestinal tract of fish. They cause damage to the intestinal lining, leading to reduced nutrient absorption, weight loss, and sometimes severe inflammation. Infections are often subclinical but can become problematic in stressed or overcrowded fish populations.
Distribution: Worldwide
Hosts: Various freshwater and marine fish species
Detection Methods: Microscopic examination of intestinal tissue, Histopathology
Target Tissue: Intestinal tract
