Also known as: MrNV
Macrobrachium rosenbergii nodavirus (MrNV) is a virus that infects the giant freshwater prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii, particularly during the post-larval stage. MrNV is associated with white tail disease (WTD), a condition marked by whitened muscle tissue and high mortality. The disease poses significant threats to prawn hatcheries and nurseries, especially in Southeast Asia. MrNV typically co-infects with an extra small virus (XSV), which may exacerbate the disease’s severity.
Distribution: Asia (particularly Southeast Asia), detected in other aquaculture regions
Hosts: Giant freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii)
Detection Methods: PCR – unspecified; Histopathology
Target Tissue: Muscle tissue
