Rotifers are microscopic, free-living aquatic animals (1-2mm in length) that can be found on the external surfaces of fish. They have a distinct feeding apparatus that appears to rotate rapidly, giving them their name. While generally harmless, high densities of rotifers on fish may indicate poor water quality or stress in the host.
